When using an airsoft Tommy gun it will help to know that there are two types of ammo that can be used for various types of these guns. While larger 0.2g BB pellets can be used 0.12g BB pellets can be fired out of the gun at especially fast speeds. The most common form of ammo that can be used is the 0.12g BB. This type of BB pellet is the lightest pellet that is available for airsoft guns. It is used by most airsoft Tommy guns because of how it can be shot out with ease in an automatic fashion without putting too much stress on the gun.
The 0.12g BB can be fired out of a Tommy gun at amazingly high speeds. The ammo will be shot at a firing velocity of more than 300 feet per second or FPS but some models can handle velocities of more than 350 FPS. This velocity level is even greater than that of what is found in smaller airsoft pistols and many rifles.
Many Tommy guns can handle 0.2g BB pellets as well. The 0.2g weight is the most common weight for airsoft guns. It is not going to go as fast as a 0.12 BB can when shot out of a Tommy gun but it can reach speeds that are close to 300 FPS. This option can travel longer distances after being fired than the 0.12g option can.
Ammo that is heavier than 0.2g is not recommended for any of these guns. These airsoft guns are not going to be capable of handling larger weights because they will generally not fit into the gun and fire as easily as 0.2g or 0.12 pellets can. Sticking with the two main sizes is the best option to use for an airsoft Tommy gun.
